クロモドーリス・ウェスタリエンシス Chromodoris westraliensis (O'Donoghue, 1924)

特徴

体長 65 mm に達する中型のイロウミウシ類。体地色は黒色を基調に、背中央付近に 1〜2 個の鮮やかな青色斑、その外側を橙色の縁取りが囲む派手な配色をもつ。青色斑には暗色の細点が散在する。触角と二次鰓はいずれも橙赤色。黒帯と橙縁の位置関係や中央黒斑の有無には個体変異がある。

分布

模式産地はオーストラリア西部のアブロロス諸島。オーストラリア西部に固有的に分布し、北はキンバリー地域から南はエスペランスまでの沿岸の浅海から記録されている。パース近海では最も普通に見られるイロウミウシ類の一つで、水深 18 m 程度までの礁上に生息する。

種小名の由来

種小名 westraliensis は産地名 Western Australia の縮約形 Westralia に由来する地名形容詞で、「西オーストラリア産の」の意。

補足

特定種の海綿を食し、宿主由来の二次代謝産物を体内に蓄積して防御に用いると考えられている。鮮やかな配色は捕食者への警戒色として機能する。
